The Committee proudly announces the first person to be publicly named on Team Humanity: Elizabeth,

affectionately known as Liz to her co-workers, patients, and friends, works at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH), where she brings her compassion to the Psychiatric Intensive Care (PIC) unit, the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit (IPU), and potentially Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES). I have spent time in all three, predominantly in PIC, where I stayed for about 15 days.
In such settings, where the adage 'power corrupts' is all too evident, many nurses adopt the demeanor of prison guards, exerting control over vulnerable patients. Liz, however, stands out starkly against this backdrop. She cares about everyone, and her compassion shines through for all to see.
Liz is a hero to Team Humanity, embodying the spirit of resistance against the dehumanizing aspects of institutional care, much like a hero from Star Wars.
Liz's story, however, is far from over. More insights into her impact and the broader experiences at NRGH are forthcoming...
